Asia: Physical and Human Geography (People and Places)
This interesting and highly-stimulating lesson enables students to describe and understand the key aspects of physical geography (e.g. climates, vegetation belts, flora, fauna, mountains, and rivers) and human geography (e.g. types of settlement, populations, use of resources, and trade) in the vast and varied continent of Asia. Whilst gaining a wide range of knowledge about the content, students also become familiar with a wide range of vocabulary pertinent to the geography curriculum.
The lesson follows a clear, logical, bite-size learning journey, which guides students towards relevant and constructive learning objectives. Over the course of this journey, they become able to:
- Identify Asia on a map, and identify the countries and regions within Asia;
- Understand key information about the physical and human geography of the continent, through a fun, interactive quiz;
- Retrieve, share, and describe their understanding of the physical and human geography of specific locations in Asia (Dubai, Yala National Park, Gobi Desert, and Tokyo) through a jigsaw model task;
- Complete a case study of the physical and human geography of their own place in Asia, and describe their findings to others;
-Peer assess each other’s descriptions using the learning objectives.

Stone Cold - Homelessness!
This engaging and informative lesson helps students to understand one of the key themes running throughout Robert Swindells’ Stone Cold: Homelessness. Students use key information, research skills, and extracts from the text to understand how and why homelessness happens and who it can affect, before composing their own arguments about how they believe homelessness should be tackled.
The lesson follows a step-by-step learning journey, in which children learn through:
- Considering their own views towards homeless people, and thinking about how these were formed;
- Researching how and why people become homeless, and who it affects ;
- Reading an extract from 'Stone Cold' in which Link describes a night on the streets, to better empathise with those who are sleeping rough;
- Answering comprehension questions about the extract, considering the writer's use of language and retrieving textual information to back up their ideas;
- Forming their own arguments about how homelessness should be tackled, using their own research and the information gathered throughout the lesson;
- Peer assessing each other's learning attempts;
Included is:

Ozymandias Comprehension Activities Booklet!
This 16-page resource booklet contains a wide range of age-appropriate, engaging, and meaningful comprehension activities for use throughout the reading of Percy Bysshe Shelley’s war poem ‘Ozymandias.’ Teachers have found them particularly useful throughout teaching, or for exam revision or guided reading sessions. They are perfect for aiding the progress of students towards meeting the key English Literature assessment objectives - suitable for all examining bodies. Students have found these resources extremely engaging, and it is clearly highlighted within each task regarding which assessment strands the task is designed to demonstrate.
Activities within the booklet include:
‘Analysing Context’ - helping students to ‘Show understanding of the relationships between texts and the contexts in which they were written.’

Four Pictures, One Word!
This is a great resource for lesson starters, building literacy across the curriculum, plenaries, or simply for fun. Based upon the popular mobile app, this visually engaging activity is highly effective at promoting engagement and getting students thinking about words - many of whom seem to love playing the game on their phones! It is particularly useful for Literacy practitioners who are looking to expand students' vocabularies and/or raise the subject of homonyms.
There are a range of challenges:
